After Everything is a romantic drama film released in 2023, directed and written by Castille Landon. This film continues the story of the beloved characters from the After book series by Anna Todd. It is the fifth installment in the film series and serves as a direct sequel to After Ever Happy (2022). The main characters, Tessa Young and Hardin Scott, are once again portrayed by Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin, respectively.
The film premiered in select theaters across the United States on 13 September 2023, and was distributed by Voltage Pictures. It has a runtime of 93 minutes and has generated about $10.6 million at the box office.
The plot focuses on Hardin, who is still struggling to cope with the breakup with Tessa, which occurred a year earlier. After discovering his manuscript for After, Tessa left him, prompting Hardin to experience significant writer's block. His publisher, Katherine, urges him to create a follow-up to his successful book.
Hardin is pressured into going out but finds himself reminiscing about Tessa. After a chaotic night that ends with him passing out, he faces criticism from his family for his self-destructive behavior. In search of closure, Hardin travels to Lisbon to reconnect with Natalie, a girl from his past.
While in Lisbon, Hardin and Natalie reflect on their past experiences of being thrust into the public eye without consent. Through a series of events, including playful outings and a confrontation with a jealous friend, Hardin starts to realize that he needs to confront his feelings for Tessa while also moving forward with his life.
As he begins to write again, inspired by Natalie, he finishes a new manuscript and shares it with her. Meanwhile, back in America, Tessa prepares for a wedding, unaware of the emotional journey Hardin is undergoing.
The film culminates in a heartfelt reunion between Hardin and Tessa at a wedding ceremony, where they confront their shared past and assess their feelings for one another. In a moment of clarity, Hardin proposes to Tessa, hinting at a hopeful future together.
The film also features a talented cast, including Louise Lombard as Trish Daniels, Stephen Moyer as Christian Vance, Mimi Keene as Natalie, and Benjamin Mascolo as Sebastian, among others.
Though marketed as the "Final Chapter," director Landon has hinted that more stories might follow, including a prequel and a sequel centered on the next generation of characters.
After its theatrical release, After Everything became available on video on demand on 3 October 2023, with international releases continuing through early October.
