Despicable Me is a beloved American animated film series created by Sergio Pablos, Cinco Paul, and Ken Daurio. This franchise focuses on Gru, a former supervillain who transitions into a devoted father. The story revolves around Gru and his three adopted daughters: Margo, Edith, and Agnes, along with their mischievous yellow helpers known as Minions. The initial film introduces Gru, who plots to steal the Moon after a rival villain named Vector steals the Great Pyramid of Giza. In a surprising turn, he adopts three orphan girls, which forces him to reconsider his priorities.
Despicable Me premiered at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival on 09 June 2010, before its official release in the U.S. where it quickly garnered fanfare.
In the sequel, Despicable Me 2, Gru teams up with agent Lucy Wilde to investigate a mysterious theft. The film explores the challenges Gru faces as he balances fatherhood with his newfound responsibilities as a secret agent. It was released in the U.S. on 03 July 2013.
The third installment, Despicable Me 3, follows Gru as he discovers his long-lost twin brother, Dru, while they team up to thwart the villain Balthazar Bratt, a former child star from the '80s. This film debuted on 14 June 2017 and was released in theaters on 30 June 2017.
Looking ahead, Despicable Me 4 promises new adventures as Gru raises his baby while facing threats from villains Maxime Le Mal and his girlfriend Valentina. This film is set to hit theaters on 03 July 2024.
