Godzilla Minus One, directed and written by Takashi Yamazaki, is the 37th installment in the iconic Godzilla franchise. Released in Japan on 03 November 2023, this epic film marks a significant milestone, celebrating the franchise's 70th anniversary.

The story unfolds in post-war Japan, featuring Ryunosuke Kamiki as Kōichi Shikishima, a former kamikaze pilot grappling with post-traumatic stress disorder after his run-in with the terrifying creature known as Godzilla. The film's rich supporting cast includes Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, and Munetaka Aoki, among others.

After the success of Shin Godzilla in 2016, Toho's production of another live-action Godzilla movie faced delays due to a contract with Legendary Entertainment. It wasn’t until 2020 that plans for a new film began to take shape, with Yamazaki being chosen to helm the project.

Filming took place across various locations in Japan, particularly in the Chūbu and Kantō regions, from March to June 2022. The film's visual effects, crafted by Shirogumi, took about eight months to complete, showcasing a budget between $10 million to $15 million.

Godzilla Minus One premiered at the Shinjuku Toho Building on 18 October 2023. The initial release generated much anticipation, and it has since grossed over $113 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese Godzilla film to date, surpassing the profits of Shin Godzilla.
