Demons that once almost destroyed the world, are revived by someone. To prevent the world from being destroyed, the demon has to be sealed and the only one who can do it is the shrine maiden Shion from the country of demons, who has two powers; one is sealing demons and the other is predicting the deaths of humans. This time Naruto's mission is to guard Shion, but she predicts Naruto's death. The only way to escape it, is to get away from Shion, which would leave her unguarded, then the demon, whose only goal is to kill Shion will do so, thus meaning the end of the world. Naruto Shippuden the Movie is an animated martial arts fantasy film that marks the fourth entry in the Naruto film series and is the first film in the Naruto: Shippuden saga. Released in Japan on 4 August 2007, the film was directed by Hajime Kamegaki and features a screenplay by Junki Takegami. The movie is set after episode 32 of the Naruto Shippuden series.
The story begins with a chilling prediction of Naruto Uzumaki's demise while battling a fearsome monster. The narrative opens with a funeral for Naruto in his village, where his friends gather to mourn. Tsunade, the village leader, gazes out the window, contemplating the role of fate in their lives.
In a flashback, we learn about Yomi, a man who attacks a shrine to resurrect Mōryō, a demon intent on dominating the world. Mōryō is currently without a body, and Yomi offers his own as a temporary vessel. The only one who can stop Mōryō is Shion, a priestess with the power to seal the demon away. Unfortunately, she also has the gift of foresight, including the ability to predict deaths. To further his plans, Yomi awakens an army of stone warriors and sends his four subordinates to hunt down Shion.
To combat this threat, the Land of Fire dispatches several teams to hold back the stone army. Naruto, along with his friends Sakura Haruno, Rock Lee, and Neji Hyuga, is assigned to protect Shion and escort her to the shrine where Mōryō's original body is located. During their journey, they fend off Shion's assassins, but the priestess predicts Naruto's impending death, causing tension between her and Naruto.
As circumstances unfold, Shion pretends to die in battle, but it is later revealed that her servant, Taruho, had used a body switch technique to protect her. Following Neji's advice, Naruto takes Shion to the temple on his own. Shion confides that her visions come at the cost of others' lives, but Naruto promises to keep them both safe.
After a confrontation with the assassins, they reach the temple only to find the stone army waiting. Naruto bravely holds them off while Shion begins the sealing ritual. However, Yomi tricks her into starting the ritual with him inside the barrier, allowing Mōryō to reclaim his body. As Kakashi Hatake, Might Guy, Shikamaru Nara, and Temari battle the stone army, Naruto rushes to save Shion, who is on the brink of fulfilling her grim prophecy.
In a surprising twist, Shion uses the power of her bell to alter Naruto's fate. With her feelings for him growing, she intends to sacrifice herself to defeat Mōryō. Just in time, Naruto intervenes, combining their powers to create a massive Rasengan, driving it into Mōryō and eradicating the demon.
In the film's concluding scene, Naruto inquires about Shion's plans for the future. She reveals that Mōryō was born from humanity's darker thoughts and vows to continue the lineage of priestesses to combat future demons. In a humorous double meaning, she asks Naruto if he will help her, hinting at a deeper connection, but he remains oblivious, agreeing without understanding the implications.
The film features a talented voice cast, including Junko Takeuchi as Naruto and Chie Nakamura as Sakura. It was well-received at the box office, grossing approximately ¥1.21 billion (around $10.0 million). Fans praised the engaging storyline and stunning animation, although some noted the film's darker themes compared to previous entries in the series.
Overall, Naruto Shippuden the Movie combines action, fantasy, and emotional depth, making it a noteworthy addition to the beloved franchise.
