The rule begins.
Pushpa 2: The Rule is an Indian Telugu-language action drama film directed by Sukumar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers in collaboration with Sukumar Writings. The film stars Allu Arjun as Pushpa Raj, with a supporting cast that includes Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, and others. It is the sequel to the 2021 film Pushpa: The Rise.
The film's plot continues to follow Pushpa Raj, a former laborer who turns into a sandalwood smuggler. He faces fierce opposition from enemies, including the police officer Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat. The story kicks off with an intense sequence at Yokohama port, setting the stage for Pushpa’s escalating conflicts.
Initially announced shortly before the release of the first film in December 2021, the sequel's title Pushpa 2: The Rule was confirmed in August 2022. The production began after some footage was shot simultaneously with the original film. Filming officially started in October 2022, and the film was made with a budget of approximately ₹400 to ₹500 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever produced.
The film has a substantial runtime of 200 to 220 minutes, making it one of the longest Indian films to date. It features music composed by Devi Sri Prasad, with cinematography by Mirosław Kuba Brożek and editing by Naveen Nooli.
Pushpa 2: The Rule was released worldwide on 5 December 2024 in various formats, including IMAX and 4DX. It received positive reviews from critics and set numerous box office records, grossing over ₹1,350 crore (approximately $180 million) worldwide. This makes it one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, alongside other successful films in the industry.
The film's plot starts with a shipment of red sandalwood arriving at Yokohama port, where Pushpa is discovered hidden within one of the containers. After attacking the workers and getting shot, he falls into the sea, leading to a series of flashbacks that reveal his rise to power and the challenges he faces from rival smugglers and corrupt officials.
In this sequel, we see Pushpa's determination to expand his business and gain political power, culminating in a deal that could change everything for him. As he navigates treachery and conflict, the stakes rise, and the film delves into themes of ambition, loyalty, and power struggles.
The film's extensive cast includes notable actors like Jagapathi Babu and Anasuya Bharadwaj. The action, drama, and unique storytelling elements have resonated well with audiences, ensuring its place as a major cinematic event.
As the story unfolds, viewers can expect thrilling action sequences, emotional depth, and the signature style of Allu Arjun that has captivated fans. With Pushpa 2: The Rule, the saga of Pushpa continues, promising even more excitement and drama in upcoming installments.
