Snack Shack

Snack Shack is a coming-of-age comedy film set to release in the United States on 15 March 2024. Directed and written by Adam Carter Rehmeier, the movie tells the story of two teenage friends, A.J. Carter and Moose Miller, as they navigate summer jobs and complicated relationships in Nebraska City during the summer of 1991.

The film features Conor Sherry as A.J. and Gabriel LaBelle as Moose, along with Mika Abdalla as Brooke, a new lifeguard who disrupts their plans. Other notable cast members include David Costabile and Nick Robinson. The film is produced by MRC, Paperclip Limited, and T-Street.

The story follows A.J. and Moose as they seek summer employment after their parents shut down their home beer-making operation. They aim to run the snack shack at a local community pool, which they successfully bid on using A.J.'s college savings. Their first day of business is a hit, earning over $1,600.

As they settle into their new roles, A.J. becomes infatuated with Brooke, who lives next door. Tensions rise when Moose also shows interest in her, leading to a competitive and sometimes strained friendship. The film explores themes of friendship, love, and the bittersweet nature of growing up.

Filming took place entirely in Nebraska City, starting on 25 July 2022. The production received support from a $200,000 grant from the Nebraska state government. Notably, the film draws from Rehmeier's own experiences working at a pool snack shack in his hometown.

Upon its release, Snack Shack has garnered positive reviews, with critics praising its humor and nostalgic elements. It currently holds an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 6.2 out of 10. The film's rich dialogue and lively performances, especially from Sherry and Abdalla, have also received acclaim.

The film aims to resonate with audiences through its relatable characters and humorous take on teenage life, reminding viewers of their own youthful days and summer adventures.
