Uncharted

Uncharted is a 2022 American action-adventure film directed by Ruben Fleischer. The movie is based on the popular video game series developed by Naughty Dog and stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Other notable cast members include Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas. The film tells the story of Drake, who is recruited by Sullivan to find the legendary treasure from the Magellan expedition, racing against the corrupt billionaire Santiago Moncada and mercenary leader Jo Braddock.

The journey to bring Uncharted to the big screen began in 2008, involving numerous changes in directors, scriptwriters, and cast members over the years. Initially, Wahlberg was set to play Drake, but Holland was eventually cast in May 2017. Filming took place across various locations, including Boston, Barcelona, and New York City, with production starting in March 2020, but it was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic before resuming and wrapping up later that year.

It had its world premiere in Barcelona on 07 February 2022 and was released in the United States on 18 February 2022 by Columbia Pictures. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, who appreciated the performances and visual effects but criticized the plot and its lack of faithfulness to the source material, the film was a commercial success. It grossed over $407 million worldwide against a budget of $120 million, making it one of the highest-grossing video game adaptations ever.

The plot follows orphaned brothers Nathan "Nate" Drake and Sam Drake, who attempt to steal a treasure map from a museum. Sam disappears after promising to return for Nate, leaving him a family heirloom—a ring belonging to their ancestor, Sir Francis Drake. Fifteen years later, Nate works as a bartender in New York City. His life changes when he meets Victor "Sully" Sullivan, who informs him that Sam went missing while searching for a treasure linked to the Magellan expedition. Nate agrees to help Sully locate Sam and steal a golden cross believed to be tied to the treasure.

As the story unfolds, Nate, Sully, and a fellow fortune hunter named Chloe Frazer face off against Santiago Moncada and Jo Braddock. Throughout their adventure, they encounter traps, secret passages, and numerous action sequences that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The film culminates in a thrilling showdown that leads to the discovery of the treasure, but not without betrayal and unexpected twists.

Aside from Holland and Wahlberg, the cast includes Tati Gabrielle as Jo Braddock and Antonio Banderas as Santiago Moncada. The film's score, composed by Ramin Djawadi, adds to the movie's adventurous tone and has been praised for complementing the action on-screen.
