James Paul Marsden, born on 18 September 1973, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, is a well-known American actor. He grew up in a family that valued education and creativity. Marsden's parents were Kathleen, a nutritionist, and James Luther Marsden, a food safety advisor. They divorced when he was nine years old. He has two younger sisters and two brothers.

For his education, Marsden attended Hefner Middle School and Putnam City North High School in Oklahoma City. He then went to Oklahoma State University to study broadcast journalism, during which he joined the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. However, after a year and a half, he decided to pursue acting in Los Angeles.

He began his career in 1993 with guest roles on popular television shows such as Saved by the Bell: The New Class and Touched by an Angel.
