Jon Bernthal

Jonathan Edward Bernthal, born on 20 September 1976, is an accomplished American actor. He gained fame for his role as Shane Walsh in the popular television series The Walking Dead from 2010 to 2012 and again in 2018. His performances earned him significant recognition, further enhanced by his portrayal of Frank Castle/The Punisher in the Marvel series.Daredevil and its spin-off, The Punisher, were pivotal in establishing him as a leading figure in modern television.

Born in Washington, D.C., he is the son of Joan Lurie and Eric Lawrence Bernthal, a former lawyer and chairman of the board for the Humane Society of the United States. Bernthal has a diverse family background, with a musician grandfather and relatives in various professions, including medicine and business.

Growing up in Cabin John, Maryland, Bernthal attended the prestigious Sidwell Friends School, graduating in 1995. He describes his youth as filled with challenges and has often referred to himself as a "troublemaker." After high school, he briefly enrolled at Skidmore College before leaving to study acting at the Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia, where he also played baseball.

Bernthal's acting career began in the early 2000s, with his first significant role in the 2004 film Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding. He relocated to Los Angeles in 2006 and landed a regular spot on the CBS sitcom The Class, which lasted only one season. His hard work in regional and Off-Broadway theater soon paid off, leading to a breakthrough role in 2009 as a series regular on Eastwick.

Bernthal married Erin Angle, the niece of Olympic wrestler Kurt Angle, on 25 September 2010. They have three children together and reside in Ojai, California.
